The seamless passenger journey is becoming a reality with the ongoing adoption of advanced technologies, including biometrics, the technology that enables passengers to use a  single token to authenticate their identity when traveling through an airport. The implementation of biometrics is not only improving the passenger experience and personalizing the journey, but also improving security and airport capacity and operations. Tony Chapman, Senior Director of Product Management and Strategic Programs for Airport Systems at Collins Aerospace, walked us through the seamless passenger journey in this video presentation.

“The industry has been using biometrics for some time already,” Chapman tells us. Historically, biometric solutions have been used for border security by immigration services. It allows these agents to more effectively move the passenger through security, so they can focus on passengers who may need more extensive checks and investigations.

The adoption of biometrics continues to evolve as the technology improves and is enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI) and as passengers are becoming increasingly more accepting of using it to improve the travel experience.  In the future, biometrics will allow airport systems to understand passenger preferences, adopt pre-security clearances, and even in-flight payments to make the journey even more seamless.
