Earlier this week, Collins Aerospace announced the launch of its newest solution for airlines – the OpsCoreTM Flight Tracking solution. This new, cloud-based solution is designed to provide precise, real-time flight tracking for airlines with capabilities and benefits that help airlines meet ICAO’s Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS) requirements and better utilize their flight data.
OpsCore Flight Tracking is powered by FlightAware’s HyperFeed® engine and Firehose API feed. This enables the solution to deliver up-to-date flight position data, while also delivering enhanced flight data for other airline systems and applications. This flight location data can be leveraged by airlines to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and make the passenger experience better.
“OpsCore Flight Tracking is designed to help airlines meet the ICAO GADSS requirements for flight tracking, but it also helps airlines meet their operational needs to better serve their passengers,” said Perry Wright, associate director for Value Stream Management at Collins Aerospace.
“Smart airlines see these solutions as more than just flight tracking. They see them as an answer to multiple problems and as a data source that can be used across the enterprise.” – Perry Wright
Natively integrating into other Collins Aerospace airline solutions, the real-time flight information provided by the OpsCore Flight Tracking solution can be utilized to enable more data-driven decision-making – allowing airlines to potentially reduce fuel consumption, lower costs, and decrease their environmental impact. This is especially important today, with airlines facing rising costs, tighter profit margins, and stringent “net-zero” carbon emissions goals.
“The commercial aviation industry has grown accustomed to operating on razor-thin margins and finding ways to remain profitable despite rising costs and increased expenses,” explained Wright. “In this environment, any opportunity to increase efficiency, eliminate waste, and improve operations is welcomed. OpsCore Flight Tracking gives dispatchers and operations managers the data needed to mitigate disruptions, optimize operations, and give passengers a more seamless travel experience.”
The capabilities of OpsCore will only increase in the near future. Collins Aerospace anticipates integrating FlightAware ForesightTM predictive analytics into the solution in 2023, delivering another level of analysis and awareness.
“Smart airlines see these solutions as more than just flight tracking. They see them as an answer to multiple problems and as a data source that can be used across the enterprise,” notes Wright. “OpsCore Flight Tracking is the next step in the evolution of flight tracking solutions into operations decision support tools capable of improving how airlines operate, accelerating their sustainability initiatives, and increasing their profitability.”
