The Asian aviation market continues to see significant growth, with IATA’s 20 year forecast predicting that the Asia Pacific region will see the biggest global growth in passenger demand from 2015 to 2035. As the Asian travel market continues to grow, it’s imperative for decision makers across the aviation ecosystem to work together to create an environment that’s scalable and optimized for growth.

Many in the industry have come together with a focus on strengthening the aviation infrastructure in the Asian Pacific region. One example of such a partnership can be seen in a recent announcement from Collins Aerospace and its GLOBALink partners Aviation Data Communication Corporation (ADCC) and the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Limited (AEROTHAI). According to a company press release, the three organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding to leverage each company’s existing technology in an effort to enhance safety and efficiency for flight and tarmac operations in Asia.

“We recognized an opportunity to utilize sensors on tarmac ground service equipment for usage tracking, predictive maintenance and even monitoring speed and safety in critical areas where airplanes may be parked,” stated Clotilde Enel-Rehel, general manager for Commercial Aviation & Network Services for Collins Aerospace, in the press release. “That’s just one example of how this partnership will create a connected tarmac, and in turn, enable true schedule optimization.”

By continually working to optimize operations through the implementation of new technologies, airports in Asia will be able to help mitigate challenges that come with expected passenger and aircraft traffic increases. In addition to optimizing passenger services inside the airport, the need for reliable communication on the tarmac is paramount.

“Communication is critical in the aviation industry, and not just for those in the air or in the tower,” explained Mr. Somnuk Rongthong, president of AEROTHAI, according to the press release. “By creating a more connected environment we help airports digitally transform through technology and automation future-proofing their operations for years to come.”

Continued support and collaboration with players across the aviation ecosystem as exhibited by Collins Aerospace, AEROTHAI, and ADCC is the way of the future for the industry and will determine who is equipped for growth and innovation.
